Loudon, TN-based Fort Defiance Industries (FDI) is a growing engineering and manufacturing company. FDI is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to provide day-to-day production support for existing products.


Position Summary:

The manufacturing engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes in line with FDI product specifications and quality standards.  The position is responsible for determining and implementing improvements to production processes.  In addition to assisting in the planning and design of products or product improvement, the position also coordinates manufacturing launch for new or improved products.


Primary Job Functions:

  • Evaluates and improves manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, and material and communicating with both vendors and FDI production staff.

  • Coordinates with Supply Chain to research and qualify vendors to support manufacturing

  • Internal technical support of existing products ensuring they meet prescribed standards of reliability, performance and safety.

  • Serves as primary engineering technical support for Quality Control of incoming materials and parts

  • Researches, designs, and develops new products or product improvements.

  • Visually inspects, tests, and troubleshoots existing products and makes recommendation for solutions.

  • Consistently evaluates and modifies design of emerging and existing products as needed to meet required standards or create product improvements.

  • Prepares product reports, documents processes, and makes recommendations for design features or improvements.

  • Researches design features including collaborating with internal and external customers and subject matter experts.

  • Manages new projects from inception to implementation including project timeline and critical path.

  • Responsible creation of processes and procedures for both operation and care of FDI equipment.

  • Develops and maintains strategic maintenance plan for improving asset reliability.

  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating preventative maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures

  • Provides technical support on existing products as needed.

  • Communicates and makes presentations both written and verbally with company personnel, external customers and vendors.

  • Documents all items and actions per company and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains familiarity with FDI information technology systems and coordinates all related activities.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
